Mission

The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors—across the street, across the country, and across the world—in emergencies. Each year, in communities large and small, victims of roughly 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new—the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross.

Through over 700 locally supported chapters, more than 15 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world.

Some four million people give blood—the gift of life—through the Red Cross, making it the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. And the Red Cross helps thousands of U.S. service members separated from their families by military duty stay connected.

North America, Can you Step Up to the Challenge? Fund
The Challenge You may have seen in May when RAF Financial Analysts Roland Camacho and Dylan Johnston out of the Edmond, Oklahoma office led a virtual helping hands event for the West Territory. Well, they’re doing it again and challenging all of North America to join in on the challenge. We will be walking the week of September 14th and your daily steps Monday through Friday that week will count towards an individual and team competition. The Goals We want to feel connected while we are still apart, we want to raise money for a good cause and we are encouraging everyone to stay active. The Charity We will be raising money for Feeding America and the American Red Cross, in light of all the recent natural disasters. If you are joining the challenge from outside of U.S., and would like to add additional charities to support North America, please let us know. Our recommendation is that each person donates a penny per step on their daily average – that means that if you walk the recommended 10,000 steps daily, we’d ask you donate $100 to the fund with a maximum recommendation of $100, so don’t worry if you blow past 10,000 steps. Also, if you’d like to join the step challenge but aren’t ready to donate, that is fine as well. Tracking Progress There are many ways to track your daily steps via the Health app on your Smartphone, Smartwatch or download the StepUp Pedometer from your app store. In order to track your steps for the challenge, we ask that you can email or text your daily steps to Carollann Romo. (Carollann.romo@raboag.com, 661-904-7558) We will have updates for the team challenges throughout the week. Currently the teams are broke out to Wholesale, DLL, Pacific Territory RAF/RDS, West Territory RAF/RDS, East Territory RAF/RDS, Central Territory RAF/RDS, Vendor Finance and RDS. You can choose your team or let us know if we missed a group. As you’re walking, please take a picture too and we’ll use them to put together a recap video. The Competition Each of the top three individuals with the most steps will receive $100 in their Bright Funds account to donate to a charity of their choice, this is thanks to the Health and Wellness Committee. We will also be tracking the team winners. There are two team winners, one will be based on the total number of steps and another will be on the average steps per person.

2020 Hurricane Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund
Hurricane Laura, classified as a Category 4 Hurricane, made landfall in Louisiana in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 27. With wind speeds of up to 150 mph, the storm has already resulted in widespread damage to the region, as well as dangerous flash floods, power outages, and the potential for tornadoes in the surrounding states. The last time there was a storm of this magnitude was more than 100 years ago. Simultaneously, COVID-19 cases continue to be on the rise in Texas and Louisiana. On the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Ivan striking the Gulf Coast, the same area finds itself picking up the pieces after Hurricane Sally made landfall as a Category 2 storm at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach at 4:45 AM, Wednesday, September 16, 2020. As it slowly crawled to shore, the monster storm gained strength which means that this area of Alabama, and then quickly followed by the panhandle of Florida, endured hours and hours of rain and storm surge. This caused mass flooding and destruction, across a wide stretch of the Gulf Coast. We know that when disaster strikes, a wave of helpers always follow. Because Hurricane Laura was just a few weeks ago, many disaster relief organizations were already down on the Gulf and could transition some or all of their team to be in place to respond to the wrath of Sally. We have established The 2020 Hurricane Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund to support the communities impacted by the storm. This Fund includes pre-vetted nonprofits providing emergency response in the region. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are working to provide immediate relief; the composition of the nonprofits in this Fund are subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Please join us May 21st, in a legacy of service; 5 Blood Drives and a Virtual Event; https://rdcrss.org/3lDtHqe Kindly help us show our gratitude for the resilient unwavering commitment so many responders have put forth this last year. Take a moment to review the profound impact below and contribute if possible, truly grateful for the support. Across the country, American Red Cross responds to an emergency every 8 minutes. No one else does this: not the government, not other charities. From small house fires to multi-state natural disasters, the American Red Cross goes wherever we’re needed, a beacon of hope when its needed most. Millions of people across the country have been impacted by the ongoing coronavirus while at the same time hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by record setting wildfires in the west and a relentless series of hurricanes along the Gulf Coast. In these unprecedented times there has been one constant, the Red Cross. Local need for our services continues to grow. Here’s how your support impacted lives last year: • Responded to 577 local disasters providing relief to over 2,300 people. • Installed nearly 4,000 free smoke alarms making more than 2,400 homes safer. • Worked with over 2,800 military families connecting them with critical services and support in a time when so many faced isolation and unknowns. • Trained over 40,000 in life saving courses including CPR and water safety and babysitting. • Countless blood drives to ensure adequate supply, collecting over 66,000 units of life saving blood. • Partnered with the FDA to collect plasma from recovered Covid-19 patients to help those battling the disease. Red Cross knows that emergencies don’t stop and neither do we. Our region serves more than 3.6 million people and has a dedicated team of 1700 volunteers ready to help at a moment’s notice.

The Fight Against COVID-19 Continues Fund
***UPDATE - 11/25/2021*** Thanksgiving has come around once again and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported my cause. In the summer of 2020, I was delivering our homegrown plants by cart. I first thought of creating a website to assist me after experiencing the hassle of tracking orders and pricing. I worked on a site that users could use to document their interests and donate to the fund. I am happy to announce that thanks to the website, I have not only reached but exceeded my goal of $5,000! Thank you all for making this possible! ***UPDATE - 11/26/2020*** On this Thanksgiving day, I would like to give thanks to all those who have donated to this cause. Each and every dollar given by you all will help the Red Cross with their ongoing COVID-19 efforts and Janyaa with helping children in India continue their education. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to BrightFunds for letting me run this campaign on their platform. We will leave the fundraiser open until the end of the year, as every penny counts. About: Hunger is on the rise in America, compounded by the prolonged pandemic which caused extensive job losses in America. With the number of cases growing rapidly across the world, the fight against COVID-19 has to continue. The impact of this virus is profound in developing countries like India, where education took a dive because of the major digital divide. 320 million students face a lack of learning because of the school closures and not having basic internet, which is taken for granted in developed countries. I’ve decided to fight for both of these causes and started this fundraiser with the purpose to collect donations for the American Red Cross and Janyaa in India. The funds will be equally split between these foundations. The American Red Cross has adjusted their resources to provide necessities for quarantine shelters and food distribution centers. Janyaa has been helping 500,000 students across more than 900 schools over the past 11 years by building curriculum-based science & math material to help 6th - 10th grade children. To continue these efforts during this pandemic, they are organizing interactive online sessions with nearly 5000 students and working with them closely over the next few months until schools reopen their gates. This is an absolute necessity for these children as they don't have the support structure at home to help with their studies. In appreciation of your donation, you can choose from one of the following: I am very passionate about the game of golf, and I have played for almost ten years. I would love to share my knowledge of the sport, so if you donate $50 or more, I will spend an hour with you or your kid on the golf range. Please fill the form below if you are interested in a golf lesson and want to sign up: http://tiny.cc/GolfForm If you live in and around San Jose, you can come by and pick a traditional Indian plant. As quantities are limited, early donors get their preferred plants. Please fill the form below if you are interested in plants and want to learn more: http://tiny.cc/PlantForm

Lebanon Crisis Appeal Fund
The situation in Lebanon is not just devastating; it's an unprecedented-scale crisis. In the last few days, 700 lives have been tragically lost, and over 3,000 civilians have been injured, some in critical condition. Thousands of families are fleeing their homes in panic and are now seeking shelter in crowded schools as more Israeli airstrikes tear through neighborhoods today. After almost a year of gradual escalation, more than 116,000 people in Lebanon have been displaced and are in desperate need of aid. Global Fund's appeal is to raise an initial $100 thousand to expand our efforts to provide vital aid to displaced families. With Israeli attacks on Gaza also continuing unabated, Global Fund continues to call for an immediate ceasefire across the region and for all parties to respect international law, a crucial step in protecting civilians.Support our Lebanon emergency appeal and help us continue to save lives. Hurricane Helene Relief Fund
Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on the evening of September 26, 2024 as a powerful category 4 hurricane, resulting in life-threatening storm surges, heavy rainfall and up to 140 MPH winds. Homes, businesses, and infrastructure are facing catastrophic damage and over 1 million homes in Florida faced power outages, with another 2 million experiencing outages across Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and southern Virginia. Severe flooding has permeated Florida's northwestern coast, with the storm moving inland and ravaging multiple western North Carolina communities. Asheville, NC became virtually inaccessible due to flooding and storm damage, and the village of Chimney Rock has been destroyed, along with several others. The storm also made a devastating impact across multiple Eastern Tennessee communities, leaving significant damage and destruction in its wake. Communities in Georgia, South Carolina, and southern Virginia are also experiencing impacts due to severe flooding. More than 200 storm-related deaths have been reported, with many others still missing. Relief efforts are underway, and the following nonprofits are providing critical resources in the form of emergency shelter, food, water, medical treatment, and supplies to those impacted. Your donation to this Fund will help support both immediate and long-term recovery efforts. Please note the organizations included in this Fund are subject to change as we learn more about needs on the ground.
