Cancer is a major public health challenge worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, accounting for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. The burden of cancer is not only measured in terms of mortality but also in terms of morbidity, as cancer can cause significant physical, psychological, and social distress to patients and their families.
Cancer can also have a significant impact on the economy and society as a whole, as it can result in increased healthcare costs, lost productivity, and reduced quality of life. Additionally, cancer can exacerbate existing social inequalities, as those from disadvantaged backgrounds may be more likely to develop and die from cancer due to factors such as poor access to healthcare, unhealthy living conditions, and limited awareness of cancer prevention and screening.
Given the significant impact of cancer on individuals, families, and communities, it is important to continue to prioritize cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment efforts. This can include promoting healthy lifestyles, increasing access to cancer screening and treatment services, and investing in cancer research to develop new and more effective treatments.
