Impact Guru - Cancer Funds
This project aims at providing financial help to patients in India, suffering from Cancer, Impact Guru identifies these patients who need financial support for their Hospital Expenses, and supports them through crowdfunding and raising grants. Cancer is a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Normally, human cells grow and multiply (through a process called cell division) to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place. Sometimes this orderly process breaks down, and abnormal or damaged cells grow and multiply when they shouldn’t. The estimated number of incident cases of cancer in India for the year 2022 was found to be 14,61,427 (crude rate:100.4 per 100,000). In India, one in nine people is likely to develop cancer in his/her lifetime. Lung and breast cancers were the leading sites of cancer in males and females, respectively. Among the childhood (0-14 yr) cancers, lymphoid leukemia (boys: 29.2% and girls: 24.2%) was the leading site. The incidence of cancer cases is estimated to increase by 12.8 percent in 2025 as compared to 2020. Globally, cancer is the leading cause of death, accounting for 10 million, or one in six, deaths in 2020, according to WHO. In India, too, cancer is the leading cause of death, with 7.84 lakh deaths recorded in 2018, and 13.92 lakh cases reported in 2020. As the cost break-up shows, cancer is an expensive illness to manage. Besides, screening for early detection, diagnostics, and treatment, it involves posttreatment care and rehabilitation. The cost depends on the type of cancer and the complexity of the biopsy conducted. INR 2000 to 4000 | USD $ 24 to $ 49 INR 8000 to 10000 |USD $ 98 to $ 122 Imaging: for further investigations Ultrasound: INR 500 |USD $ 7 CT Scan: INR 1,000 to 15,000 |USD $ 12 to $ 182 (depending on the body part) PET CT Scan: INR 5,000 to 25,000 |USD $ 61 to $ 305 MRI: INR 5,000 to 12,000 |USD $ 61 to $ 146 Fitness/blood test: To find out about the fitness and strength of the body, blood tests are conducted.
