Most people know how impactful American Red Cross is across the country and around the world. You may not realize that your local Northeast Chapter supports our community each and every day by; • Responding to local disasters (primarily fires) • Assist families with shelter, food, comfort, and hope after a disaster • Proactively install thousands of life saving alarms • Prepare people for emergencies and train in life saving skills • Collect donations of blood to help hospital patients in need • Provide emergency communications and critical community services The Red Cross maintains an unwavering commitment to our local community as well as members of the U.S. military, it’s veterans and their families, and our local youth and young adults. ITDRC provides emergency connectivity and technology for disaster response and recovery. The ability to make phone calls and send emails are among the many critical requirements for disaster response organizations and affected populations. On Saturday, December 22nd, 2018 a series of deadly tsunamis struck Indonesia’s Sunda Strait, killing at least 429 people with 1,500 people either injured or missing. Bright Funds has established the Indonesian Sunda Strait Tsunami Disaster Response and Recovery Fund, comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in Indonesia. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can help provide short-term and long-term response and recovery to multiple organization initiatives. Our Fund approach is informed by expert and local recommendations, based on up to date information from disaster philanthropy and nongovernmental organization networks. The Fund's strategy is similarly dynamic and responsive: as information on local communities needs becomes available, we will update the organizations in this Fund, directing donations towards specific organizations doing work in the areas most affected. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts, medical assistance, and providing access to clean water, food and shelter. Our approach is primarily informed by the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

Tamil nadu Cyclone (Kaja) Relief Fund

California Wildfire Victim Relief Fund The Camp Fire is being referred to as the deadliest and most destructive fire in California history. As it stands, the death toll has now climbed to 79, with an estimated 1,100 or more still missing. According to CalFire, 151,000 acres have now burned, destroying over 12,000 structures, most of those being single family homes. Approximately 52,000 people have been displaced, many of which have no home to return to. The Woolsey Fire in Southern California, which has burned about 100,000 acres, is now one of the largest fires on record in LA County. There have been 3 confirmed fatalities, and 616 structures destroyed, with an estimated 57,000 structures still in danger. 100% of your donation will go to the American Red Cross. Any amount helps. On the morning of Wednesday November 7th, 2018, the most destructive wildfire in California modern history struck the Northern California region of Butte County. This fire is accompanied by fires burning in Southern California as well. Bright Funds has established the California Fire Response and Recovery Fund to support the communities impacted by these fires. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing emergency response in the region. The Camp Fire, which erupted in Northern California on Thursday, has killed at least 63 people, with 600 people still missing, and burned through 117,000 acres of land. Already the most destructive fire in the state’s history, it remained just 30 percent contained as of Monday night. The Woolsey Fire outside Los Angeles, which started Thursday and doubled in size overnight, has killed two people and burned nearly 100,000 acres. Both fires prompted the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people, some not realizing how dangerous the fires had become until flames arrived at their doorsteps. The Hill Fire, which destroyed 4,500 acres in Ventura County, was 85 percent contained on Monday, the result of aggressive firefighting and favorable weather conditions.

California Wildfires (Butte, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties) - November 2018 Dropbox created the California Wildfires Relief Fund in response to the three massive wildfires in Northern and Southern California. Hurricane Willa battered the coast of Mexico, flooding homes and leaving many without power and access to safe water. Willa is just the fourth Eastern Pacific hurricane to reach Category 5 strength in the month of October dating to 1971. The others were Patricia (2015), Rick (2009) and Kenna (2002). The eastern Indonesian island of Sulawesi was hit with a 7.5-magnitude earthquake and a subsequent tsunami that hurled water as high as 20 feet over the city of Palu. Officials said the death toll has reached 2113 and there's still more than 1300 people missing. Since the disasters, stores have been looted, residents have gone hungry and there have been mass jail breaks. Some nonprofit organizations and charities have mobilized to bring relief to the island. Since then, more than 200 aftershocks have been felt following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Before advancing to strike China, Typhoon Mangkhut, a powerful storm 550 miles wide, pummeled the Philippines, leaving destruction in its path. This monsoon, rains lashed the southern state of Kerala in India. Three days of torrential and relentless rains have caused unprecendented damage killing 186 people and destroying over 10,000 homes. Also called "God's own country", the state of Kerala is now facing the worst floods since 1972, bringing 10 of its 14 districts under water. Over 60,000 people are lodged in various relief camps across the 14 districts.

Kerala, India has experienced one of the worst monsoon seasons in nearly a century. The torrential rains have killed hundreds of people and led to landslides that have displaced hundreds of thousands of people. To support recovery efforts in the region, Bright Funds has established the Kerala Flood Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits partnering with organizations on the ground to provide disaster relief in the region. Immediate Response Needed: The heavy rains and overflowing rivers have flooded a number of villages in India. Local officials are supplying items to a few villages, but hungry families have asked us to join with them as thousands are suffering. The heavy rains have damaged homes, roads, electricity poles, bridges and so much more. Villages are submerged underwater, and families have lost everything. Families in relief camps are being cared for by the government. We are going by boat into the villages so that we can see the need and deliver food to those in greatest need. Vani texted us, surrounded by water on high ground. “We are facing hunger, there are many babies here and it is heart breaking to hear their cries of hunger.” “There is no food except the cooked food packets and water packets dropping by helicopter.” Your gift of $55 will provide a family with two weeks of food and basic supplies, which includes 25 Kgs rice, vegetables, oil, masala, and soap. We are also including mosquito nets and bedding as these will be vital. Our team will be delivering relief aid by boat because the floodwaters have made travel by road impossible. Many of the families affected by the floods live in extreme poverty and are desperately in need food and supplies to help them during this devastating disaster. The devastating floods in Kerala, the southern state in India, during this monsoon has resulted in more than 400 lives lost, more than 20,000 homes destroyed with over 1.5 million people displaced and in camps waiting for the water to subside. Rescue operations are still underway. The people of Kerala have lost their families, homes, livelihood and much more. This has been the worst floods in the state in over a century. This year's devastating hurricane and wildfire seasons has left many people without basic necessities - a roof over their heads, food to eat, and warm clothing for the winter months.
