Since the inception of the 'zero tolerance' policy earlier this year, many families have been separated at the US-Mexico border, with children being taken away from their parents and put into areas and situations they are unfamiliar with. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing support to those who are seeking asylum and safety. We have initially selected organizations that work to support and reunite the families who have been put in this incredibly difficult situation. The composition of nonprofits in this fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Modern movements for racial justice and equality, like the Black Lives Matter movement, are extensions of the work that he started. MLK Day, celebrated nationally on January 18, is a day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s mission, life, and legacy. The holiday, often referred to as “a day on, not a day off,” is dedicated to volunteerism, encouraging people everywhere to reflect and take action in their communities. The call to action on this day is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions for some of our most pressing social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.” Dr. King led the charge to demand the most basic of human rights -- civil rights -- and there are plenty of opportunities to contribute. This Fund is comprised of nonprofit organizations that are fighting for social justice in the U.S. and around the world. On December 14th, 2017, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to dismantle net neutrality regulations. Net Neutrality protections were established during the Obama administration to protect Americans' online communication and ensure that all Internet service providers are treating web traffic equally. The implications of this vote reach far and wide, impacting both low income and minority populations negatively. In response to this vote, Bright Funds has established the Net Neutrality Fund to support nonprofits working to protect the rights of Internet users.

June is Pride Month. Pride is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Americans. This Pride Fund supports organizations that promote the safety and advance the wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community through advocacy, direct services, mental and physical health accessibility, education, and public policy changes. Through a single donation to this Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives working to ensure acceptance, equity, and justice for all.

Helen Keller was an American humanitarian, author, and activist who is widely known for her wide array of accomplishments despite contracting an illness at 19 months old which ultimately left her both deaf and blind. Keller went on to pursue a successful career as a writer and lecturer as well as within the sociopolitical sphere, advocating for women's suffrage and world peace while campaigning on behalf of those living with disabilities. Keller worked for the American Foundation for the Blind and co-founded the American Civil Liberties Union, and her legacy lives on through the work of the organizations included in this Fund. In celebration of Keller's birthday on June 27th, Bright Funds created the Helen Keller Birthday Fund. This Fund is spotlighting organizations who are doing the critical work of advocating for people with disabilities through education, policy, research and direct services. The organizations in this Fund have a collective goal of ensuring that people with disabilities have access to the resources and supports they need in order to succeed within communities that are equitable and accessible for all.

This year, we'll be celebrating Equal Pay Day in the US through a conversation with the ACLU and our People/Legal teams. We'll start by learning more about the broader movement around Equal Pay from the ACLU and finish by hearing more about the important measures Box is taking.
