Funds in Disaster Relief

Pakistan has been hit and devastated by drought followed by flood. The flood has claimed more than a thousand lives (and counting) and has swept away crops, homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Life has come to a complete stop, and people have no electricity, water, food, shelter, and other basic needs. Almost half a million people have been displaced and suffering. Immediate action and help are needed to provide basic necessities to the needy. Please help me and donate to this cause.

Heavy monsoon rains and flash flooding have devastated the communities of Pakistan since June of 2022, and the flooding is now categorized as a humanitarian crisis. An estimated 33 million people have been affected, with more than 1,000 reported deaths and more than 1,500 reported injuries. Maximum relief efforts are currently underway, but more relief and aid is needed as the country is expected to continue to experience heavy rains. The following organizations are currently making efforts to provide relief to those impacted by these catastrophic and unprecedented weather patterns.

Help the flood victims

Since mid-June, Pakistan has been inundated with record levels of rainfall and flooding, affecting over 33 million people, and causing what Pakistan's Minister of Climate Change is calling the worst humanitarian disaster of this decade. Over 1500 people have died from severe rain and flooding across the country. According to the UN, over 660,000 people have been displaced to relief camps across the country. Pakistan's National Disaster Management Agency states that more than 1.8M homes, 12,700 kilometers of road, and 390 bridges have been destroyed. Cisco Foundation has launched a $500K Pakistan Floods disaster relief campaign to support the efforts of Helping Hand for Relief & Development, Hidaya Foundation, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, International Medical Corps, Islamic Relief Canada, Islamic Relief USA, Mercy Corps, Save the Children, and World Central Kitchen. Donations will be matched up to $10,000 per employee. Campaign donations will not be counted toward employees' annual $25,000 match limit. Note on Tax Deductibility: This fund includes U.S.- based organizations. U.S. employees who make a credit card donation will receive a receipt for tax deductibility for the portion of the donation contributed to these organizations. Employees outside the U.S. will not be able to receive a receipt for tax deductibility for credit card donations to organizations in this fund.

Several cities across Pakistan are facing the devastating effects of continuous, heavy rains with the onset of monsoon season this July. As of August 5, 2022, 543+ people have died, as well as over 24,800 livestock. In Balochistan alone, at least 150,000 people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with 18 out of 26 districts declared calamity-hit areas. 36,680+ homes and 1,520 miles of roads have also been damaged, displacing hundreds of families and leaving them in need of food, clean water, shelter, and medical care.

Pakistan is in dire need of our support to get essential supplies and support to those in need. The flood situation in Assam remained grim over the last few months with over 54.5 lakh people still affected and 100+ deaths reported till date. Brahmaputra and Barak rivers along with its tributaries are in spate in most of the affected districts and vast tracts of land remained inundated in 32 of the total 36 districts in the state. The flood waters, however, receded in a few places. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin Kopili river is flowing above the danger level at Kampur in Nagaon district, Disang river in Sivasagar, Brahmaputra at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Goalpara and Dhubri, Barak river at Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi district and Kushiara at Karimganj. The worst affected districts are Barpeta where 11,29,390 are affected, followed by Kamrup with 7,89,496, Dhubri with 5,97,153 and Nagaon with 5,03,450 people in the flood, according to a bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The flood has damaged 218 roads and 20 bridges, besides breaching two embankments in Kamrup district. A crop area of 99,026 hectares and 33,17,086 animals have been affected. On June 22nd, 2022 a powerful earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan. That afternoon, the toll had already reached at least 1,000 casualties and more than 1,500 more injured. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 5.9-magnitude earthquake occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time. It was felt across most of the country, and because it took place near the border of Pakistan, the country was also affected. We don't yet know the full magnitude of the disaster, but these organizations are sharing their work and receiving donations so that you can help those affected.

Urgently needed humanitarian relief for migrants legally entering the US in Brownsville, TX

Selection of non profit in support of humanitarian crisis, and specifically for their program to support Ukraine.

This organization funds medication and medical supplies for field and army hospitals at the front lines of eastern Ukraine. Revived Soldiers Ukraine was founded in 2016 and has since brought 50 wounded Ukrainian soldiers to U.S. hospitals for care. The organization’s president, Iryna Vashchuk Discipio, said they urgently need monetary donations to buy medication and to repair a car used to rush injured soldiers away from the front lines.

This organization has several humanitarian efforts which assembles and delivers aid packages to Ukraine. Their mission is to provide humanitarian aid to vulnerable groups and individuals in Ukraine, raise awareness about Ukraine in the United States and throughout the world and support Ukraine in its effort to build a strong civil society.

It has been over a month that Russia started a war of aggression against Ukraine. The United Nations says ten million people — around a quarter of the population —have fled, either displaced inside the country or as refugees abroad, searching for safety. Following these events in Ukraine, VCF has set up this Bright Funds page in support of, and to enable, donations to the World Central Kitchen. In staying true to our mission of ‘Growing a better world together’, this is just one small way we can show our support to those communities facing unimaginable circumstances and uncertainty at this moment.

Tuesday evening, southern states including Louisiana & Texas were hit by multiple tornados and severe weather that has continued into today. At this time we acknowledge that some of us might be looking for ways we can be helpful, so we've created the following charitable giving fund focused on recovery and relief. Please feel free to donate to help your colleagues and their communities get on the road to recovery.

Ahla Fawda is reaching out to Cisco to help in their mission to support the Civil Defense during the holy month of Ramadan. Our partnership with Ahla Fawda allowed us to provide COVID care to hospitals, clinics and individuals during the pandemic. The NGO also visited 11 Civil Defense centers and distributed PPE's, donated a rescue board, and helped in the fixing of two ambulances. As we know from previous collaborations, the Civil Defense is not supported or helped by any entity. They are made up of volunteers that give their time and face the frontlines of all emergencies. These volunteers put funds from their own pockets to sustain their centers. They truly need our help and support. Two Civil Defense centers, Ras Beirut and Karantina, have reached out to us to help in providing food parcels to the volunteers working in each center (approximately 75 people). Food parcels contain dried goods to feed a family of five for up to three weeks. Ahla Fawda are including more items as a special Ramadan package. Each package will cost between $15-18 as of now, as prices keep increasing. Ahla Fawda has a target to feed a minimum of 1,000 families for Ramadan. The situation here is declining and the demand is increasing for basic needs. CISCO has been an incredible support, and we would be so grateful for any assistance that you are able to give us.
