PROYECTO GUAJIRA 2020 Colegio y Jardin Infantil Santa Cruz, La Guajira. Colombia. PROYECTO GUAJIRA 2020 School and Nursery Santa Cruz, La Guajira. Colombia. Goal: $4,250 WaterAid is determined to make clean water, reliable toilets and good hygiene available for boys and girls. Our Healthy Beginnings Campaign seeks to improve health and nutrition for over 750 boys and girls with the availability of clean safe water and proper hygiene. We need all the support from the Cisco team to help us reach our goal! With your help we will be supporting the school Santa Cruz, which serves over 42 Children, located in the La Guajira (Colombia’s most northerly region: a vast and wild desert on the Caribbean coast bordering Venezuela). Today there is no water directly being supplied to the school. The students and teachers have to carry water in buckets from a central location and they relieve themselves in the areas surrounding the community. This tough situation creates a health hazard while being a huge burden as well. The total cost of this project is $8,500 USD. The challenge for this campaign is to raise $4,250 USD between December 2019 and February 2020, while taking advantage of the Cisco match to achieve the ultimate goal of $8,500 USD. WaterAid will be supporting this project all along and this venture will conclude with an actual visit to the project in La Guajira, where we will engage with the community who is benefiting from this campaign. The kids in Santa Cruz and WaterAid thank you in advanced for your support!

India Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund
COVID-19 cases are surging in India, where health centers are overwhelmed with the demand for care. They need oxygen and vaccines. They also need clean water. Help us save lives. Help us get water to critical points of care so that frontline staff can care for patients safely and those suffering are assured the most basic tenets of care. Health centers require running water to maintain basic hygiene, keep patients hydrated and ensure doctors and nurses are able to wash hands between patients. That's where you come in. Make an emergency donation to support Covid-19 humanitarian aid. $1,000 can help prevent the spread of Covid-19 by keeping the water flowing in rural communities and health centers during India's dry season. $500 can build mobile handwashing stations, bringing hygiene to vulnerable communities so that people can wash hands on the go. $250 could provide health centers with emergency handwashing stations and toilets so that frontline health staff can protect themselves and their patients. $75 can get urgent hygiene messaging to vulnerable populations in dozens of languages to safeguard public health. We are monitoring the Covid-19 crisis closely in numerous countries and will launch rapid response efforts where needed. With India's dry season fast approaching, the situation will rapidly become more dire, and emergency water supplies will be needed. Your emergency donation will help WaterAid reach people in India with life-saving clean water and hygiene programs to combat the spread of Covid-19. Why WaterAid? Since 1981, WaterAid has reached 26.4 million people with clean water and 26.3 million with decent toilets. We have been water, sanitation and hygiene experts for four decades. We believe in long-term solutions. WaterAid is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN/ tax ID number 30-018-1674). Your donation will go where it is most urgently needed.

Did you know that 844 million people across the globe don't have access to clean water? In May 2020 I’ll be traveling to Colombia with WaterAid, an international organization dedicated to bringing clean water, toilets and hygiene assistance to the poorest and most marginalized communities across the globe. After several days trekking to the ancient, Lost City of Tayrona, I’ll be visiting and volunteering with WaterAid in indigenous, Wayuu communities in La Guajira, Colombia. For the past 3 years I've served as a board member of Wateraid. I've seen first-hand how my time and money have directly made a life-giving difference in the health, social enablement, and upward enablement of so many people. Please consider making a donation to my page today. Gifts made will directly support the communities in Colombia I’ll be working with on my trip. The Indigenous Wayúu live in dispersed rural and marginalized communities with very limited access to services, where only 16% has access to water and a mere 4% to basic sanitation. Currently, it is estimated that 60% of the Wayúu population suffer from malnutrition and roughly one indigenous child under 5 has died of causes linked to malnutrition every week over the past 2 years. WaterAid is working to change this, and with your help, I’ll be making a real difference in the lives of many on my trip with WaterAid. WaterAid Fund for clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in La Guajira, Colombia
From Andean peaks and Caribbean coastlines to hidden ruins in Amazonian jungle, Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. But sourcing water for everyone is still a problem. Decades of armed conflict, drug trafficking, weak government and corruption have made Colombia a difficult place to live for many people. In recent years, the country’s economy has grown and its tourism industry has boomed, but certain regions still lack essential services. In rural areas almost one in three people do not have a decent toilet, and one in four do not have clean water to drink. We are working to change this, focusing first on indigenous groups in the northeast Department of La Guajira. Using our experience of working with local communities and service providers, we are helping make clean water a normal part of daily life for the poorest, most marginalised people in this region. With their help, we test technologies and approaches that have worked in similar environments elsewhere. We train local people to install and maintain windmill, hand and solar-driven pumps and storage tanks. And we set up water committees to help keep these solutions working, whatever changes the climate brings. Most importantly, we bring local, national and regional organisations together to collaborate on improvements to services. Together, we are making a lasting difference in rural communities across Colombia with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.
