Immunization is one of the most cost-effective and successful health investments we can make. Every year vaccines save between 2 and 3 million people from such deadly diseases as diphtheria, polio, tetanus, rotavirus diarrhoea, and pneumonia. Yet 1 in 5 children (approx. 1.5 BILLION) still do not have access to life-saving immunizations. PEAK6 HELPS INDIA India’s second wave of COVID-19 has hit—claiming 1 death every 5 minutes. Hospitals are dreadfully full while oxygen and supplies are running extremely low. People are even dying in lines as they wait to see doctors. So far, less than 10% of its population have had the first dose of the vaccine and less than 2% are fully vaccinated. India is grappling with a second coronavirus surge where hundreds of thousands of people are infected each day. Sadly, many are unable to get the medical help they need. Donations to this fund will help organizations treating patients and helping slow the spread of COVID-19 in India.

India is experiencing a catastrophic second wave of COVID-19, consistently surpassing its own daily records of infection rates and deaths. While Delhi has been hit the hardest, the virus has rapidly traveled to smaller cities and towns that are struggling. The situation in India is devastating, and it poses a global risk -- experts warn that the more the virus spreads, the more chances it has to mutate and create variants that could eventually resist current vaccines in circulation, threatening to undermine other countries' progress in containing the pandemic. The 2021 India COVID-19 Recovery Fund is composed of pre-vetted nonprofits based in the United States providing emergency response in India. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. Our Fund approach is informed by expert and local recommendations based on up to date information from disaster philanthropy and nongovernmental organization networks, such as the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. Given the ever-changing nature of this pandemic and widespread impact, the composition of the nonprofits in this Fund will evolve. Helping fight the humanitarian crisis in India. India, which hosts 1/6th of the global population, has seen a record number of daily cases and lives lost to Covid-19. It has been reporting 400k new cases every day with more than 3,500 deaths per day in this second wave, figures that are likely being under reported. With 2.4M+ active cases and 180K+ deaths reported as of late April, the COVID resurgence in India has stretched existing medical infrastructure to the breaking point with a shortage of health workers and hospital running out of beds, oxygen supplies, ventilators and anti-viral drugs. The employees of Rabobank and community can donate to the disaster response campaign to benefit responding nonprofits: UNICEF, CARE, Direct Relief, American India Foundation and Path. Rabobank will match eligible donations up to $500 per employee. Please note: donations will be counted toward employees' annual $500 match limit.
