June is Pride month! The Pride 2020 Fund celebrates Pride by featuring organizations addressing the multi-faceted needs of the diverse LGBT+ community. The Fund includes organizations advancing the well-being of the community through direct services and mental health resources as well as those promoting equity and representation through legal services and policy advocacy.

June is Pride Month – dedicated to recognizing the LGBTQ+ community and its contributions to the world and raising awareness for the need to continue the fight for equal rights and recognition. The first Pride parades and festivals in the US which were organized in 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall Riots in June of 1969 when the LGBTQ+ community rose up in protest of a violent police raid of the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. These demonstrations were one of the defining moments of the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. In support of our LGBTQ+ friends and family, we have identified these organizations to highlight in our fund. They are:

In recent times, LGBTQ+ expression and identities have been threatened and censored with legislation that feels like it’s moving backwards around the world. In these moments when our safety and rights are at risk, it's even more important to step into the truest version of ourselves. Now more than ever, we need safe places on and offline for the LGBTQ+ community to freely express ourselves. We’ve set up a Pride month fund in Bright Funds benefiting organizations from around the world that provide advocacy for LGBTQ+ issues. In the summer of 1969, police raided a gay bar in New York City; the riots that ensued were a major turning point for the fight for gay rights in the United States. Since June 1970, LGBTQ+ folks, along with activists, advocates, and allies have continued to gather together in June to march with Pride. While there are still many obstacles the LGBTQ+ community faces, significant progress has been made over the past few decades. The 2021 Pride Fund supports organizations that promote the safety and advance the wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community through advocacy, direct services, health accessibility, education, legal representation, and public policy changes. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives working to ensure acceptance, equity, and justice for all.

This fund was set up to support nonprofits + charities, which were selected by Pantheon staff + community members, in improving the lives + expanding the rights of those in the LGBTQIA+ community. Each nonprofit listed here is involved in work that benefits the LGBTQIA+ community in some capacity, + 100% of the funds raised will be split evenly between the 50 organizations. Anyone can contribute to this fund, so please share it far + wide! If you do donate, remember to also ask your employer if they’ll match your donation. Note: Pantheon matches donations for full-time employees up to $500 USD per year per employee, up to $25K USD per year.

Transgender Awareness Week is celebrated from November 13th through November 19th each year, and aims to increase public knowledge surrounding the common issues faced by the transgender community including discrimination and prejudice in various forms, socioeconomic and healthcare inequities, and acts of violence, among others. Additionally, Transgender Awareness Week highlights the importance of trans visibility in all spaces, showcases stories and experiences from within the transgender community, and encourages allies to stand in solidarity by showing their support and commitment to working towards justice and equality. Transgender Awareness Week precedes Transgender Day of Remembrance, observed annually on November 20th. Transgender Day of Remembrance memorializes the lives lost to targeted, anti-transgender violence and advocates for the fight for justice. In addition to supporting nonprofit organizations with a donation, you can participate by organizing or attending a vigil to honor those who have lost their lives to targeted acts of violence. Your donation to this Fund will help support the selected organizations' shared mission of providing support in all forms to the transgender community, increasing trans visibility, and advocating for justice and inclusion through direct client services, policy development, and educational programming.
