Centre For Addiction And Mental Health Foundation
The CAMH Foundation drives change for mental health by inspiring philanthropy that enables leading-edge care, research and education at CAMH. CAMH is also committed to truth and reconciliation through specific programs for those who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.
The Aboriginal Service provides outpatient groups and individual counselling to Aboriginal people experiencing substance use and mental health issues, as well as support to clients who are in CAMH inpatient programs.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, group therapy is offered through secure Virtual Care platforms. At this time, there is limited in-person availability for clinical services, Elder/Traditional healer appointments, and limited access to Traditional Ceremony Grounds.
The treatment team includes Aboriginal Social Workers and an Elder/Traditional healer, as well as access to psychiatry. The Aboriginal Service blends therapeutic and psycho-educational groups with cultural programming and ceremonies as part of a holistic approach to care. In addition to other ceremonies, CAMH has an onsite Sweat Lodge that can be utilized as part of a client’s treatment plan.
